Responding to Gas & Electric Emergencies

This PG&E seminar hosted by Cordelia Fire Protection District at their Cordelia Fire Hall will provide you the information you need to educate your personnel about emergencies involving gas and electric utilities. Information about where to order educational materials will be provided following the class.

Topics include:

• Gas and electric infrastructure components and how they operate.
• Recognizing an emergency.
• Elevated fire apparatus.
• Parking your rig.
• Do’s and don’ts at the scene.
• Alerting the utility company
• Isolating and denying entry.
• Step and touch potential.
• Making contact with energized sources, such as cable, phone and other utilities lines.
• Where is the migrating gas accumulating.
• Secondary ignition sources.

Lunch will be provided

Gas Transmission Response Training
Modoc, Siskiyou and Shasta is home to a natural gas transmission pipeline. A leak or fire in one of these facilities can involve large volumes of product at high pressures, both ingredients for a challenging emergency response.
Course content will include:
• Characteristics of gas transmission pipelines and systems
• Identification of pipeline emergencies
• Emergency services response considerations
• Response support systems provided by PG&E
• Emergency notifications
• Following presentation, a tour of the Burney Compressor Station will be provided for those that would like to attend
